Dr Lim Jui and Mr Tong Hsien-Hui from SGInnovate visiting NSTIC (GaN)

NSTIC (GaN) was pleased to welcome Dr Lim Jui and Mr Tong Hsien-Hui from SGInnovate for a focused visit and dialogue on connecting research with venture building in Singapore’s deep-tech ecosystem. The session explored how science-backed innovation, investment, and infrastructure can come together to advance semiconductor Singapore and strengthen the country’s position in next-generation microelectronics.

Introducing NSTIC (GaN)’s Research and Infrastructure

The visit began with an overview of NSTIC (GaN)’s full-stack capabilities in Gallium Nitride (GaN) innovation. From materials growth and wafer processing to RF and mmWave device prototyping, the centre supports end-to-end development of GaN technologies.

Discussions highlighted how NSTIC (GaN) translates research into industry-relevant outcomes across sectors such as wireless communications, high-power electronics, and industrial systems. Its goal is to bridge scientific excellence with commercial relevance—supporting Singapore’s ambition to become a global hub for advanced microelectronics and semiconductor Singapore innovation.

Aligning Research and Investment for Deep Tech Growth

A key topic of discussion was the role of collaboration between research institutions and venture capital players in driving deep-tech growth. SGInnovate, known for backing science-led startups, represents an ideal partner for accelerating this translation process.

The dialogue focused on how both organisations can strengthen the research–investment bridge through initiatives such as:

  • Supporting semiconductor spin-offs and IP commercialisation

  • Connecting startups with fabrication and prototyping facilities

  • Turning lab research into investor-ready prototypes

  • Encouraging ongoing exchanges between researchers, entrepreneurs, and investors

Aligning talent, infrastructure, and capital is essential to transforming research into scalable innovations—an area where Singapore continues to demonstrate strong potential.

Exploring Paths to Collaboration

The visit also underscored the natural alignment between NSTIC (GaN)’s innovation focus and SGInnovate’s venture-building mission. Both organisations share a commitment to enabling deep-tech founders and translating advanced research into market-ready solutions.

Discussions touched on possible collaboration areas, including joint programmes for startup incubation, pilot projects to test commercialisation models, and shared initiatives to strengthen the local semiconductor ecosystem. These efforts could help accelerate technology adoption and broaden the impact of Singapore’s research community.

Looking Ahead

NSTIC (GaN) expresses its appreciation to Dr Lim Jui and Mr Tong Hsien-Hui for their visit and thoughtful engagement. Their perspectives on venture acceleration and innovation strategy added valuable insights to NSTIC (GaN)’s efforts in technology translation and commercialisation.

As NSTIC (GaN) continues to expand its ecosystem, it looks forward to working with SGInnovate and other partners to drive impactful, industry-ready outcomes that strengthen semiconductor Singapore and the broader deep-tech landscape.
