NSTIC (GaN) recently welcomed Matsuda Sangyo, a global leader in advanced materials and environmental sustainability, for a visit that centred on shared goals in innovation and responsible technology. The discussion focused on how Gallium Nitride (GaN) research can support greener solutions within the semiconductor fabrication process and beyond.

A Visit Framed by Shared Purpose

We were honoured to host Mr Akira Otani and Mr Wong Dar Hnei at NSTIC (GaN). The visit introduced Matsuda Sangyo to our research capabilities, development infrastructure, and industry-aligned GaN applications.

The team demonstrated how GaN is driving progress in 5G infrastructure, industrial systems, and power electronics. Through these examples, visitors saw how GaN technology delivers energy efficiency and high-performance connectivity. This was not only a technical briefing but also a meeting of minds united by shared values of sustainability, innovation, and measurable impact.

Finding Common Ground in Innovation and Sustainability

A key part of the dialogue examined how NSTIC (GaN)’s GaN device and system research complements Matsuda Sangyo’s expertise in sustainable resource management. GaN devices minimise energy loss, improve thermal performance, and allow more compact designs — all essential for environmentally conscious electronics.

Meanwhile, Matsuda Sangyo’s long-standing leadership in reclaiming and refining precious materials contributes to circular practices in the semiconductor fabrication process. These overlapping strengths created an opportunity to explore joint efforts that could make future supply chains cleaner, more efficient, and more resilient.

Possibilities for Meaningful Collaboration

The visit led to productive discussions on several potential collaboration areas, including:

  • Enhancing GaN-based power supply systems for industrial use

  • Exploring sustainable material sourcing for advanced semiconductor devices

  • Co-developing next-generation power and RF components

  • Creating shared innovation pathways from research to commercial deployment

In addition, both parties expressed interest in technical workshops, joint studies, and knowledge-exchange programmes. These initiatives would help bridge research outcomes with industrial practice, supporting a more sustainable semiconductor fabrication process.

Strengthening Cross-Border Ecosystems

NSTIC (GaN)’s mission extends beyond developing GaN technology. It also focuses on building ecosystems where research, sustainability, and industry advance together. Hosting Matsuda Sangyo reinforced how global collaboration can address critical challenges such as energy efficiency and responsible material use.

We are deeply grateful to Mr Otani and Mr Wong for their time and insight. Their visit demonstrated a shared belief that technological progress must go hand in hand with environmental stewardship.

Continuing the Conversation

As NSTIC (GaN) expands its global partnerships, we remain committed to fostering dialogue that connects innovation with purpose. We look forward to further engagement with Matsuda Sangyo and to transforming today’s research into tomorrow’s sustainable solutions.
